Carrico/Quinlavin Wedding at the Old State Club on June 18th, 2011

Celebrating Good Times with Brooke and her friends!

June 18th, 2011 started out as a beautiful summer day ( and it ended even better…but more about that later) as Jordan Merced and I made our way to New London, NC for Kyle and Brooke Quinlaven’s Wedding.  Jordan and I were providing the music for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception and from what I knew about Kyle and Brooke, and their guests, I was excited for an incredible reception!

Once we arrived at the Old North State Club, we were greeted by Kate Fitzgerald and Michelle Payne, the fantastic wedding planners from I Do Details Events. We went through the timeline for the evening and were beginning to set-up when Kate told me there was a huge storm coming in over the lake…we surveyed the sky and saw the clouds rolling in, within minutes a huge squaw blew in off the water as Thunder rolled and lightning flashed, the staff at the Old North sate Club, rushed everything inside as the monsoon raged.  As fast as it had blown in, it was gone…the sun was shining again and the birds were singing, Jordan Merced and I set-up all of our equipment, and got the speakers and microphones  ready for the ceremony in no time flat.

Brooke and Kyle’s ceremony was beautiful with the sun shimmering off of beautiful Badin Lake as the clouds drifted by and Brooke and Kyle became Husband and Wife!

After a delicious dinner we opened up the dance floor outside, under the stars, and it was a fantastic party the rest of the night!  The Bride and Groom danced the entire evening as their friends tried to keep up with them grooving and dancing and celebrating their day! Brooke and Kyle were loving everything from Motown, to Old School Hip-Hop, to today’s Top 40. Brooke and her girls were definitely loving  J.Lo and Britney, while Kyle and his crew got down to some “Shout”, and a little “Dixieland Delight”…it was an awesome reception!

Systel Corporate Party Casino Night and Auction

Jonny DJ'ing Casino Night for Systel at the Westin with a great backdrop from Extravaganza

On June 16th, 2011 Systel, held a great celebration at the Westin in Uptown Charlotte, as a way to thank their employees for a great year.  Extravaganza provided some amazing decoratins and props, as well as all of the equipment and staff for one awesome Casino night!

I was playing music throughout the event, feeling the guests out and playing requests, from classic rock to disco…to some funk, they were loving it.  But the most fun of the night came towards the end after everyone had “cashed” out their chips.  The employees had the opportunity to use their winnings to bid on different prizes.  I had the chance to be the auctioneer and I absolutely loved it, talking up the prizes, from I-Pods and underwater cameras to luxury watches. Systel spared no expense on these prizes, they were sweet, and all of the employees really enjoyed their night of celebration!

Cruthers/Obrist Wedding at the Mint Museum on Randolph Rd on 6/11/2011

Dana and Patrick Obrist dancing with their guests at the Mint Museum on Randolph

Dana Crothers and Patrick O’Brist were married at the Mint Museum on Randolph Rd on June 11th, 2011.

The Reception started with Cocktail Hour in the Lobby of the Mint Museum, Ron Stephens and his staff had the foyer set-up to accomodate the guests and create an atmosphere wholly conducive for mingling and relaxing, the perfect setting for cocktail hour.

After the Introductions down the elegant front staircase and into the foyer, we moved everyone upstairs  for a delicious dinner provided by Best Impressions, in the Delhomme Gallery where we had an extra speaker set-up for some chill dinner music.

Patrick is from Switzerland, and his parents spoke very little English, so I had some special requests ready for them, his Mom was a big fan of Elvis.  While Dana went to Elon and had some of her sorority sisters there who were all ready to party and have fun.

The dance floor was packed throughout the night with a great group of young and old, Swiss and American, as we kept everyone moving by playing a good mix of the Bride and Groom’s favorites. From “A Little Less Conversation” by Elvis (for the Groom’s Mother), to Rusted Root, Jack Johnson, Oasis, and Neon Trees…to Sister Sledge for the Bride and her Sorority Sisters.

This was an all around great Reception, congratulations Dana and Patrick!

Torrence Creek Elementary School and Idlewild Elementary School Parties on 6/8 and 6/9/2011

Robert Hayden one of the teachers at Idlewild Elementary School talks about his experience working with me and Split Second Sound.

On June 8th and June 9th, 2011 I had the opportunity to DJ two elementary school parties here in Charlotte, one at Torrence Creek Elementary School (6/8/2011) and one at Idlewild Elementary School (6/9/2011).

Although both parties were for elementary school students they were both unique in their own ways…the Torrence Creek group wanted more rock and roll, mixed in with some Top 40, whereas the Idelwild Elementary students wanted Michael Jackson, old school hip-hop, and some of today’s hip-hop hits.

Both schools were loving the line dances, from the “Cha-Cha Slide” to the “Cupid Shuffle” and I got out there and showed them how it was done, that way they walked away learning a little something new, while having fun and getting ready to enjoy their summers.

These two school parties were a lot of fun, the kids just wanted to cut loose and listen to their music, and all of the teachers at these two schools were great, they kept the kids in line, but still let them have fun.  I had a great time playing their requests and helping them to have a great afternoon, as they got ready for summer break.

Jones/Layne Wedding at the Palmer Building 6.4.2011

A Packed Dance Floor at the Palmer Building for Jennifer and Brandon's Wedding on 6.4.2011

Jennifer Jones and Brandon Layne, became husband and wife on Saturday June 4th, 2011 at the Palmer Building.

The Ceremony was outside in the courtyard, followed by Cocktail Hour and the Reception in the main Hall of the Palmer Building.

Finch and I provided the entertainment for this wedding, and it was great to work with him to really get the Bride and Groom and their guests having fun. The food was spectacular down-home cooking provided by Family Catering Services.

The Groom is a Firefighter, and a lot of his Firefighter firends were in attendance, so we had to give them a nice mash-up of “Fireman” by George Straight, and “Fireman” by Lil’ Wayne… they were definitely having a great time with those two songs!  Brandon is also a huge Ohio fan, so we had to hit him with a little “Hang on Sloopy” and the Bride and Groom went to Jamaica for their Honeymoon, so for one of their requests they wanted some Bob Marley to help set the tone for their evening.

The bride is a big dancer and her and her friends were loving the hip-hop and Top 40, as Jennifer pulled Brandon out there and showed him how it’s done!

The whole time Amber Spratting from Baby Blue Photography, was snapping away, saving the good times for jennifer and brandon to relish for years to come.

Congratulations Jennifer and Brandon!

Bryan Wedding at Byron’s South End 6.4.2011

....and this is how you do the "Cupid Shuffle"!

Erin Schultek and Matthew Bryan celebrated their wedding reception at Byron’s South End on June 4th, 2011.

The Cocktail Hour was in the courtyard at Byron’s and the weather was beautiful for their guests to mingle and catch-up, as smooth tunes played in the background.

We had a great group of vendors to work with at this wedding, from the Wedding Planner, Carrie Anne Drinnen with Serendipity Weddings and Events, to the photographer Jeremie from Jeremie Barlow Photography, to Amanda Pagano from Isabelle’s Corner Videography, to Nikki and her crew at Byron’s South End. Being a part of this reception was an all around joy, not to mention the delicious cupcakes from Polka-Dots Bake Shop!

Both Erin and Matthew are teachers, and a lot of their guests were teachers as well,  so we played some fun teacher based songs for them like….”School’s Out for Summer”….by Alice Cooper, and they were loving it!

The Bride is a die hard “Buckeyes” fan, so we had to play “Hang on Sloopy” for her and her crew, but the Groom couldn’t be left out and he wanted to show his love for his team, so we got all of his friends on the floor with him as we played The Chris Berman version of “Shout” for the Buffalo Bills.

Erin and Matthew’s reception was a lot of fun but you would never have known that it was a daytime wedding. The Bride and Groom were on the dance floor the entire time, the dance floor was packed all the way until their last song….which we mixed from a romantic slow song “Crazy Love” by Michael Buble’ into the more upbeat “The Time” (Dirty Bit) by the Black Eyed Peas!

This was one high energy reception with loads of dancing and lots and lots of fun!

Congratulations Erin and Matthew!!!

Gorder/Quinn Wedding at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden 5/28/2011

A Packed Dance Floor for Hally and Brian's Wedding at DSBG

Hally Gorder and Brian Quinn were married in the White Garden at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden on May 29th, 2011.

Split Second Sound provided the music for the Ceremony, Cocktail Hour and Reception.  Hally had a very clear idea of how idea of how she envisioned her wedding, starting with the ceremony music.  Hally chose several uniquely beautiful pieces by the Vitamin String Quartet.  These songs accented her and Brian’s personality, while at the same time maintaining the most elegant of ambiences.

Cocktail Hour was held on the White Garden Terrace, and we played a nice mix of Sinatra and Jazz while Hally and Brian’s friends mingled and enjoyed the beauty of Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens.

As cocktail hour wound to a close, we moved all of the guests inside for the Bride and Groom’s grand entrance, and form there a delicious dinner, provided by Something Classic Catering.

After Dinner we opened up the dance floor and got everyone out there rocking out to the Bride and Groom’s requests; everything from Tim McGraw to The Darkness! While photographer Kristin Hart, captured everything with her camera

After the last dance to “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond, we sent our Bride and Groom off in style for their Grand Exit, as Hally and Brian started their new life together as Mr. and Mrs. Quinn!

Klaes/White Wedding at the Renaissance Southpark 5.28.2011

It's all about the dance floor at Christine and Samuel's Reception!

Christine Klaes and Samuel White were married on May 28th, 2011 and they celebrated their reception at the Renaissance Southpark here in Charlotte, NC.

The staff at the Renaissance are always great to work with, and they had the ballroom decorated beautifully to match the brides theme.

Critsey Rowe was the photographer, capturing every instant with her own artistic flair.

Christine and Samuels parents have both been married for over 40 years,(the Groom’s parents have been married for 40 years and the Brides parents recently celebrated their 48th Wedding Anniversary!) and the Bride and Groom wanted to celebrate the longevity of their parents marriages with a song that would mean something to them both, “My Special Angel” by Bobby Helms.  After the parents dance, we opened up the dance floor and kept people dancing all night to everything from FloRida…to the Hokey Pokey, a special request for Christine’s family from Michigan.

It was a great night of fun and celebration for Christine and Samuel, and their family and friends!

Dennis and I had a blast mixing and playing the songs that would get everyone up and dancing.  Diana’s Dad was loving “The Twist” and Greg’s Mom got everyone going for “Love Shack”…we played a bunch of songs for Diana and her girls and ended the night on a high not with a little “Time of My Life” the original…Dirty dancing Style!  Congratulations Diana and Greg!

Verizon Camp Fitness Bootcamp on May 3rd, 2011

Verizon Employees Breaking it Down at the camp Fitness Event on May 3rd, 2011

Healthy employees are Happy employees, or so the saying goes, and on May 3rd, Verizon decided to help their employees get a little bit happier with the help of Charlotte Arrangements and Split Second Sound.

The Verizon Employees arrived at Center Stage NoDa  by the bus load, and immediately got to work, dancing and moving at 14 different stations.  each station focused on a certain aspect of health, whether that was cardio, flexibility, reflexes, or balance, and the whole time Jesse and I played fun upbeat music to keep everyone moving and sweating.

Once everyone finished their cycle of stations they got to come to my station to experience my personal take on Zumba, as I taught each group the newest dance moves and kept them moving and more importantly smiling through their workout.

At the end of the “Bootcamp” we got all of the Verizon employees on the dance floor to show us their moves to some of today’s hottest jams….and they were loving it.

Hear what Christina Smith from Charlotte arrangements had to say about working with Jonny and Jesse from Split Second Sound:

“I just wanted to say that Jonny and Jesse both did a phenomenal job.  They arrived on-site well before the event began to ensure that all of the equipment was set-up in its rightful place and that they were familiar with the program agenda.  I also wanted to give an extra kudos to Jonny as he stepped out of the program duties that were assigned to him and created his own “dance station” to entertain guests that were waiting in line to participate in the event’s activities.
I look forward to having the opportunity to work with Jonny, Jesse and the other members of the Split Second Sound team in the very near future!”
